Happy Canada Day!
Rainiers Rants would like to wish a hearty Happy Canada Day to all of our fans of the northern persuasion, and of course, our very own Captain Canada: Michael Saunders.
The speedy left fielder from Victoria, BC is hitting .303 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI this season for the Rainiers, and is widely considered one of Seattle’s top prospects.
Last spring, Saunders suited up for Team Canada in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he hit .286 with a .333 on-base percentage and a .571 slugging percentage while slamming two home runs.
Saunders also went to bat for the True North in 2007, when he participated as a member of the World Team in the MLB Futures Game at San Francisco and represented his fellow Canucks as part of Team Canada in the International Baseball Federation World Cup, held in Taiwan from Nov. 6-18 of that year.
Happy Canada Day!! Hey, also, anyone hear about that drug war on the Canadian border?
